This isn't happening...
The Winter War...years ago, the shinigami would've scoffed. "Of course we'll win," they said. It did not happen this way.
As the war dragged on, shinigami numbers began to dwindle while arrancar numbers kept slowly but steadily increasing. At last, the few handfuls of shinigami left were defeated by Aizen and his ambitions.
The shinigami king was killed. What peace there might've been was now nonexistent.
Aizen led his troops through all of Soul Society, ravaging and burning whatever they could find. What remained was a dried, dead plain with a bloody sky. Not a single soul could be sighted for many miles.
The Espada had taken the survivors as slaves and servants, forcing them to do the lowest of tasks and subjecting them to long hours of agonizing physical torture. Day after grueling day, the fighting will is beaten out of them until the word "rebellion" never was heard of again.
Some say that at night, the wails of the dead drown out the cries of the living.
The Espada, or what remains of them, were divvied parts of the universe as a gift for their work in the Winter War. Some didn't fare so well, while others didn't change. Among them, Earth didn't do so well.
Earth has become nothing more than a barren wasteland. There were only a few places with any sign of life, and those places are somewhat like livestock farms, if stated lightly. Famine, drought, poverty, and overpopulation were things of the past. Now, what people remained ate each other for survival, and lived in such barbaric ways that even Atila the Hun would be shocked.
It all results to nothing, anyways. Each day, many humans are taken to Hueco Mundo as a meal for the hollows there. Struggling to survive is futile.
There are only two humans that are not going to face this fate. One is Orihime Inoue, spared by Aizen so she can still be of use. She is still a prisoner of Hueco Mundo, with Ulquiorra as her jailguard.
The other is Sado Yasutora. He remains in the lab so his genetic information can be copied and inserted into hollows. Apart from this, he is a lab rat, testing out new technologies and such. Not all are successful.
The two are never allowed to meet.
Under that blood-red sky of Soul Society, there is still a small pocket of resistance. Several shinigami who've darted from beneath Aizen's radar again and again are licking their wounds and preparing for a coup d¡¨tat. They are weary, injured, and exhausted, but in their eyes glimmer hope.
Hope is nearly nonexistent.
Who would prevail in the end? The small group of shinigami, whose plan nearly a lost case at their present state, or Aizen, who shall finally crush the ants he'd been treading over?
If all fails, then there is no more hope left for humanity.
